The VLC team has made what it seems to be a huge effort in the last updates. I don’t know about the windows version, but the preferences pane for the Mac is just awesome in comparison to the previous one. I’m completelly pleased by that. Great job, and many thanks to the VLC Mac Team!

Also, I’m verry happy with the auto-update function. It’s clearing using the famous and amazing Sparkle framework. Sparkle and Growl togheter may be the most used pair of open source frameworks for Mac that wore not developed by Apple. In my opinion every open source App project should use them and I’m verry happy to see that VLC is not fading behind auto-update anymore.

Of course I couldn’t resist to post here a little bug that I found. This is probably not for the Mac team. This is mostly to be coused by the SSA subs decoder and/or renderer. This is realatively new feature. Before 8.x no SSA subs wore loaded by VLC. In 8.x the subs wore loaded but not shown properly. This positioned subs used to overlap with the regular dialogue subs. Also the SSA subs don’t rendered the choosen font, as it now does in 9.5.

The problem is, when you pause the playback to see the subs that passed so fast (since the type was small, for obvious reasons) the subs vanish.

This little bug is not really troublesome, but annoies me, since the great use for SSA subs is to banish the hardcoded subs. With the ability to perfectly align the subs with the image, there is no more excuse for the huge number of hardcoded anime subs out there. (witch I really hate)
